If you’re booking an in-home newborn session in Seattle, you’re probably wondering what to have ready. Good news: lifestyle newborn sessions are designed to be simple, baby-led, and low-stress. You don’t need a studio or a bunch of props. You just need a few thoughtful items so we can focus on snuggles, not stress. 🌿
Here’s your easy prep list for an in-home newborn session:
The Essentials for Baby
A special blanket or muslin swaddle
Have one or two that feel meaningful to you. A soft knit, a waffle weave, or a lightweight muslin works beautifully. We’ll use it for swaddle shots, to lay baby on your bed, or to add texture to images. If it was a gift from grandma or something you plan to keep, even better.A plain, neutral onesie or sleeper
Solid cream, oatmeal, white, or soft gray photographs best. Avoid busy patterns or logos so the focus stays on baby’s tiny features and your connection.A backup outfit for baby
Spit-up and diaper leaks happen. Having a second clean sleeper means we don’t have to stop the session. Simple is best.Wipes and a soft washcloth
For quick cleanups between setups. I’ll also bring some, but having your favorite brand on hand helps you feel prepared.Feeding supplies
Whether you’re nursing, bottle feeding, or pumping, plan for a full feeding right before we start. A fed, sleepy baby is the most cooperative baby. Have burp cloths nearby too.
For Comfort and Atmosphere
Your bed or crib as a photo spot
We’ll use a space where baby can lay safely for individual photos. A made bed with plain sheets, or the crib with a neutral sheet, gives us a clean backdrop for those sleepy close-ups.The room you love most
Good natural light is key. Clear a spot near a large window if you can. Move laundry baskets and clutter out of the frame ahead of time so we can jump right in.Snacks and water for you
Newborn days are exhausting. Keep water, coffee, or a snack within reach. This is your session too.
What You Don’t Need
You don’t need matching outfits, fancy props, or a perfectly staged nursery. Lifestyle sessions are about your real life right now. Bare feet, messy buns, and sleep-deprived smiles are all welcome here.
My Role During the Session
As your Seattle newborn photographer, I’ll guide everything. I’ll show you where to sit, how to hold baby, and when to take breaks. We go at baby’s pace. If baby needs to eat or nap, we pause. No pressure, no rushing.
