Timing is Everything: When to Schedule Your Newborn Session

As a Seattle-based newborn photographer, I'm often asked, "When should I schedule my newborn session?"

The answer is, ideally, around the 20-30 week mark of pregnancy.

Why Schedule Early?

Scheduling your newborn session early ensures that you secure a spot on my calendar, especially during my busiest months of August, September, and March. These months are peak times for newborn sessions, and I tend to book up quickly.

My Booking Process

Here's how it works:

1. Enquire: Send me a message with your due date, and I'll let you know if I have availability.

2. Secure Your Spot: If I can fit you in, I'll send an invoice for the first payment. Once paid, your spot is guaranteed!

3. Finalize Your Session: Once baby arrives, just let me know, and we'll finalize your session date.

Missed the Recommended Booking Time?

Don't worry! If you've missed the 20-30 week mark, please still reach out. I understand that life gets busy, and I'll do my best to accommodate your request.

It's Not Too Late: Capturing the Magic of Your New Baby

As a Seattle-based photographer, I often get calls from parents who think they've missed the opportunity for a newborn session. Maybe they're thinking, "My baby is already 2 months old, is it too late?" or "We didn't get around to scheduling a session, what can we do?" The answer is, it's never too late to capture the magic of your new baby!

At Amy Louise Photography, I specialize in lifestyle newborn sessions, which means I work with babies of all ages, from newborn to 3 months and beyond. While it's true that there's something special about capturing those tiny, sleepy newborn days, a session with a 2 or 3-month-old baby is just as special in its own way.

Why Wait a Little Longer?

There are many reasons why a family might choose to wait a little longer for their newborn session. Maybe mom needs more time to recover from a difficult birth, or baby was born prematurely and is still getting settled. Perhaps life got busy, and it's hard to find the time to schedule a session. Whatever the reason, it's okay to take your time.

Lifestyle Newborn Sessions:

What's the Difference? You might be wondering what to expect from a lifestyle newborn session with an older baby. Don't worry, it's handled the same way as a session with a baby only a few days old! We'll focus on capturing natural, authentic moments between you and your baby, with plenty of snugglies and snuggles. The main difference is that older babies tend to be more alert and interactive, which means we'll focus on capturing those adorable smiles and giggles. And let's be real, those are pretty amazing too!

Why a New Baby Session at 2 or 3 Months is Just as Special

A new baby session at 2 or 3 months is a celebration of your baby's growth and development. You'll get to capture those sweet baby smiles, and your baby will be more interactive and engaged. Plus, you'll have more time to enjoy the experience and soak up those snuggles. At the end of the day, it's not about the age of your baby – it's about capturing the love and connection you share as a family.

Is One or Two Months Too Old for a Newborn Session?

As a Seattle newborn photographer, I've had many parents ask me if one or two months is too old for a newborn session. The answer is a resounding no!

In fact, I love photographing one and two-month-old babies just as much as I love photographing newborns. And here's why:

Lifestyle Photography: Capturing Life as It Unfolds

My photography style is rooted in lifestyle photography, which means I capture life as it unfolds. I don't pose or prop babies in unnatural positions. Instead, I focus on capturing the beauty of everyday moments, just as they happen. For one and two-month-old babies, this means capturing their unique personalities, their curious gazes, and their snuggles with loved ones. It means documenting the way they curl up in their parent's arms, the way they grasp their toes, and the way they look up at the world with wonder.

The Same Approach, Regardless of Age

When it comes to photographing one and two-month-old babies, I take the same approach as I do with newborns. I focus on capturing authentic, heartfelt moments that tell the story of your baby's life. I'll photograph your baby in the comfort of your own home, surrounded by the people and things they love. I'll capture the way the light falls on their face, the way they interact with their environment, and the way they connect with their family.

Don't Miss Out on Capturing This Special Time

One to two months is a beautiful age, full of discovery and growth. Your baby is learning new things every day, and their personality is starting to shine through. Don't miss out on capturing this special time. A lifestyle newborn session (yes, I still call it a newborn session, even if your baby is one or two months old!) is the perfect way to preserve the memories of this fleeting time.

Welcoming Your New Arrival: What to Expect at a Lifestyle Newborn Session

The arrival of your newborn is a momentous occasion, filled with joy, love, and endless wonder. As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I'm honored to help you capture the beauty and intimacy of this special time. But what exactly happens during a lifestyle newborn session? Let's take a peek.

A Relaxed and Enjoyable Experience

Lifestyle newborn sessions are designed to be relaxed, enjoyable, and stress-free. We'll take things at your pace, allowing you to tend to your baby's needs while I capture the precious moments in between.

No Posing or Props Required

Unlike traditional newborn photography, lifestyle sessions focus on authenticity and simplicity. We won't be using elaborate props or posing your baby in uncomfortable positions. Instead, we'll let your baby's natural beauty shine through, capturing their unique spirit and personality.

Capturing Everyday Moments

Your session will take place in the comfort of your own home, where you and your baby feel most at ease. We'll focus on capturing everyday moments, like:

- Snuggles and cuddles on the couch

- Feedings and bonding time

- Quiet moments of reflection and connection

- Playtime and exploration

Tips for Preparing Your Home

To ensure our session runs smoothly, here are a few tips for preparing your home:

- Keep things simple and clutter-free

- Open curtains and blinds for natural light

- Consider having a few favorite toys or blankets on hand

- Don't worry too much about tidiness – we're going for authenticity, not perfection!

What to Expect During the Session

Here's a general outline of what you can expect during our lifestyle newborn session:

- We'll start with a relaxed introduction, getting to know each other and discussing the session's flow

- I'll gently guide you through a series of everyday activities, capturing the moments in between

- We'll take breaks as needed, allowing you to tend to your baby's needs and recharge

- Our session will typically last around 1-2 hours, depending on your baby's mood and your family's needs

Preserving Memories for a Lifetime

A lifestyle newborn session is more than just a photo shoot – it's a way to preserve the memories of this fleeting time. Your baby will grow and change rapidly, and these early days will become a cherished memory. By capturing the beauty and intimacy of this time, we'll create a stunning collection of images that you'll treasure for a lifetime.
