How to Pick the Perfect Professional Photographer {Edmonds Family Photographer}

What you need to consider before you pay that photography deposit.

If you’ve started the search for a photographer then you’ll know just how many options there

are. Before you go ahead and book a professional photographer for a shoot though, there are a

couple of important things to consider.

What style are you looking for?

Photographers have different styles so you need to decide on someone who can help you

achieve the end result you are looking for. This applies to everything from wedding and

maternity shoots to family and corporate shoots. Ask the photographer for some examples of

their latest work to evaluate whether they can cater to your needs.

Research and review.

Before you invest in a professional photographer you need to do your homework. Get online to

find a few customer reviews, browse around their website to view their latest work and have a

look around their social media pages to find out what others are saying about them. These platforms will also give you a good idea of their personality and style. Some other important

points to consider when researching photographers are:

1. Budget. Do their services fall within your price range?

2. Expertise. Are they experienced enough to give you the results you are looking for?

3. Location. Are they based in your area and are they willing to travel to a specific location

if need be?

4. Quality. Is the quality of their photos good enough? Look at aspects such as sharpness,

exposure, and saturation.

Create a shortlist.

Once you have done your research, create a shortlist of professional photographers that stand

out for you. Get in touch with each of them to discuss your needs and to ask any questions that

you might have. It’s important that you chat with the photographer over the phone if not in

person as this is the best way to get to know them and find out whether you’ll be able to work with them. Feeling uncomfortable or stressed out around your photographer makes for bad

photos.

It’s important that you pick a photographer that you have confidence in. Your photos are there

to last you a lifetime so while there is nothing wrong with helping out your photographer friend

who has just started out, it’s best to choose an experienced photographer for important events

and occasions that you can’t relive.

Fun Alternatives to Displaying your Photos {Seattle Lifestyle Photographer}

Amazing photos deserve an equally amazing display but this doesn’t mean you always have to use a traditional frame to showcase them in your home. Below is some inspiration for deciding how to display your favorite memories. If your home décor is very contemporary you might want to consider canvas gallery wraps, image blocks or standout mounts to showcase your photos. Going frameless is also a great option if you’re looking for something truly sleek and modern. If rustic and chic is more your style, then why not turn old pieces of wood into stained photo clipboards, using binder clips to hang the photos against the wood. Another unique option is to hang your photos on a thin cable to make it look like a clothesline. Binder clips also work perfectly for this. If you’re the creative type and have some extra time on your hands then there is the option of creating frames out of washi tape. This way you can incorporate different colors and designs around your photos to really make your walls pop. If you are a fan of frames, why not buy different sizes, colors and styles and create one big photo wall that displays(= a variety of memories. There are so many shapes and designs that you(= can use to create your photo wall and really( make it your own.

Since I work with so many creative vendors who offer a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional framing and display options, I am able to help you pick a unique option that suites your home and style. Whether it’s a traditional frame with hand-cut matting, shadow box or float frames, I will help you pick the right option for your home. No matter which method you choose, get creative. Filling your walls with a lifetime of memories is one of the most special and visual ways to tell the story of your family, so get hanging.

At Home With a Family of Five {Seattle Newborn Photographer}

I met this strong mama though a workout program and I felt so honored when she asked me to photograph their latest little addition, Willow. Willow is adored by her big brother and big sister. It’s always so fun to see everyone step into their new roles once the new baby arrives. Little Willow has the most perfect dark brown hair, the opposite of her two big siblings. Despite her looking different, she fits in so well with her family. That third little baby is always such a blessing. They grow up just managing to fit in and they often seem to have such a laid back easy personality. Welcome to the world little Willow. You are so loved.

Welcoming Violet & Carter {Seattle Newborn Photographer}

I can’t imagine what it’s like to go from two to four children overnight, but this family makes it look easy. This was the first twin newborn session I have photographed and it was such an honor to be invited into their space and document their morning as they adjust to being a family of six. It’s amazing to see how different their little personalities are at only a few days old. Their two big sisters are so in love with them and it was so sweet to hear them cooing "Oh baby boy, baby boy. Oh baby girl, baby girl”.

I’m now booking newborns though December so if you’re thinking about a session, get in touch so I can get you on the calendar.

When to Schedule Your Lifestyle Newborn Session {Seattle Family Photography}

As a lifestyle newborn photographer, my goal is always to make your newborn photo session go as smoothly as possible. Here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions:

How far in advance should I book my newborn session?

It is always best to book your newborn session when you are still pregnant. Knowing that babies are unpredictable and come when they’re ready, I will only book a certain amount of newborn sessions each month. We will pencil in your due date, and once baby arrives, you can let me know and we will narrow down the best date. Most moms book around the 6 month mark, however, if your baby is already here, please still reach out because I may have some availability.

How old should my baby be when we have the session?

The beauty of lifestyle sessions is that your baby doesn’t have to be sleeping for the session like most posed newborn photographers prefer. Posed photographers like to get babies in for the session in the first ten days as babies tend to sleep more in that time. For a lifestyle newborn session, it doesn’t matter if baby is a few days or a month old. I typically do in home newborn sessions in the first 2-3 weeks, but we can do it anytime in that first month. This is great if you’ve had a difficult recovery or if baby had a rough start.

How long does an in home lifestyle session take?

Sessions are relaxed and I never want you to feel rushed. I am typically at your house for about an hour and a half. If baby needs to take a break then we will do so. I don’t like to rush sessions so if we need longer than that, then I will stay longer.

What time of the day should we have our newborn session?

I will talk to you to best determine the time based on your families needs. Most sessions take place around 10am, but I am flexible if that doesn’t work for your family.

If you have any other questions or are ready to book, please get in touch. I can’t wait to chat with you.

Everything You Need to Know about Fresh 48 Sessions {Lifestyle Newborn Photographer}

When most people decide to book a newborn photographer, they think of either an at home lifestyle session, or a posed session in a studio. But have you ever considered having a lifestyle session in the hospital when baby is brand new? These sessions are commonly referred to as Fresh 48 sessions (because they take place in the first 48 hours of baby’s birth). Fresh 48s are increasing in popularity so I’m going to answer some questions you may have.

When should I schedule my Fresh 48 session?

Because there is limited time that you’re in the hospital, sessions need to be booked while you’re still pregnant.

When should I contact you?

I’d really appreciate a text while you’re in labor. You should assign your support person the job of sending me a quick text once you’re at the hospital and again, once baby is born. Depending on the length of you hospital stay, we will do the session on either day one or two.

What should baby wear?

I love Fresh 48 sessions were babies are dressed in hospital attire. The stay at the hospital is so short and they will never wear that hat or blanket again. Photographs with them wearing it make a beautiful memory of that time. I will also make sure I capture the little details like the umbilical cord stump and the hospital bracelets.

I’m not sure I want to be in pictures right after giving birth.

Trust me, no-one feels great about themselves post birth. But this is one of the most special times in your life. You did the work and it should be celebrated. I promise, I’ll photograph you in a flattering way.

How long to the sessions last?

Since you’ve just given birth and you’re likely extremely tired, I try to be in and out as quickly as possible. Although I don’t limit the amount of time I spend in the hospital rooms, most sessions are completed within 30 minutes.

How many images will I receive?

You will receive a minimum of thirty images. The session fee is $500 plus WA sales tax.

How do I book?

Email me here! Let me know you’re due date and where you’re delivering and I’ll get you on the schedule! I realize babies come whenever they’re ready but I do limit the amount of Fresh 48 sessions I take on each month so that I can be sure I make it
